Never Forget Education

by Stephanie Blye

The way in which you should list the information in the education area of your resume is in chronological order, starting with the most recent educational institution you have graduated from and finishing with the most remote one. The things you should mention are:

  • the diploma you have obtained
  • the discipline your interest had been folcalized on
  • the university (or other institution)
  • the year you have started and the year you have finished in
  • the various titles you have obtained and the titles you aspire for.

i.e.: University of Arts, Interior Designers, London, 1 October 2003-present (2 months to graduation)

It is not necessary to go as back as the primary or gymnasial schools you have graduated, unless these are prestigious institutions.

Mention the high school you have attended, the diploma you have obtaines and, if you want, specify the specialization obtained. The titles of your diplomas should not be abbreviated!

It is very important to take advantage of any achievement you have had during school. Insist on research projects (especialy if you are a fresh graduate) and if these projects are connected to the job you apply for, even better! Don't forget to mention any scholarships you have benefitted from, any olympic participation or any awards you have obtained.

Special courses:

This could be a sub-section of your education area - special courses which are relevant to the specific of the job you are applying for. Pick somewhere between 6 and 10 special courses which are related to the objective you have stated. Should one of these courses not match the job entirely, explain separately why you have chosen to include it in this list. Speaking about the list, it should be organized taking into account your priorities. Anyway, try to avoid chaotic listing.

Special projects:

This section consists of the relevant special projects, reports, thesis etc you have done (between inverted commas). If the title of the project is suggestive enough, you could list it without writing other additional information about it.

Scientific research, certification:

Make a list of your qualifications, having in mind your career objective. If you include exact dates, list your qualifications in a reversed chronological order.

Awards, scholarships:

Mention the name of the award, the name of the institution which offered it to you and the date when you achieved it. List only important awards, achieved both in college and during high school. The order of listing is reversed chronology. Explain what the awards means as well if you think the reader might have difficulties understanding it in a correct way.
