How To Get Ready For A Career Fair?
CAREER FAIR coming up?
We'll show you how to get ready!
My name is Stephanie, I am a CareerAdviceCenter Consultant and I'm here to help you prepare for the upcoming career fair.
The career fair is an opportunity for you to meet with hundreds of employers from a variety of industries. Think about it as a one stop shot to run about many job and internship opportunities, not to mention a great networking opportunity.
So how can YOU make the most out of this opportunity? Preparation is the key. We'll show you how.
Create your resume
First, create a resume and have it critiqued. Make several copies so you can distribute them to different employers.
Do your research!
It actually takes 15 minutes to research an employer. Find out about their products and services, their mission and culture and the positions for which you might be qualified. You can look up all the career employers through the internet.
Dress professionally!
The way to go is clean shaving, unless it is for religious purposes. Wear a suit, nothing splashy. You're going to a career fair, not a club. And make sure your shirt is pressed, with a conservative tie to match. Don't forget to shine your shoes, and definitely no white socks!
And ladies, you're not dressing for the club either! Keep it professional and conservative. Women can wear a skirt or pants suit. Plain blouse underneath, make sure it is pressed too. Hoes and closed-toed shoes. As for accessories, keep it simple. And if your hair is long, pull it back.
Last but not least, prepare your self marketing pitch before the career fair! It doesn't have to be long. 30 seconds will do.
