What To Expect From A Recruiter

by Stephanie Blye

Actually, a better title to this article would be what NOT to expect from a recruiter. Because a lot of people are aware of what a recruiter should act like towards a job seeker, but not many know what the recruiter is not supposed to be asked to do.

It is very important that job seekers think of what the recruiter expects from them and they should take into consideration his expectations in advance, thus building their CVs and cover letters accordingly. In order for you to become a competitive element on the job market, read the following article and learn about what a recruiter is... NOT:

1. A recruiter is by no means a CV or a cover letter writer and he is definitely not a career adviser! Their duty is to sort the resumes they get by the demands of every specific job in a company. They will look not only at your work experience, but also at the necessary abilities and competencies for that job.

2. Do not expect a recruiter to offer you a preferential treatment until you make it on the potential employees list. It's not he doesn't want, he cannot. A recruiter receives hundreds, if not thousands, of CVs and cover letters daily and his job is to sort the most eligible candidates for the job.

3. A recruiter is not the person that finds you a job or helps you perform a career change. You need specialized help for that and the best person to call is a career coach.

4. In case your CV is being rejected by a recruiter, he will not offer you any punctual explanations with regards to the reasons for which you are not suitable for the job. Your CV is part of other hundreds other CVs applied for the same job, so you would only get general explanations, like "your description did not correspond to the description of the job" or "the job is not suitable for you" etc.
